Low End Theory: Finding Clarity Between Your Kick Drum and Bass

With the busy summer gig season fast approaching, we’ve been   making a concerted effort into putting together some valuable content for all the amazing people subscribed to this blog and hopefully some new faces in the crowd popping by to see what’s up.

In addition, we will be passing on our specific knowledge relating to Hip Hop and EDM production using our favourite DAW, Logic X, as well techniques that can be transferred to other fantastic applications such as Ableton Live, Pro Tools, FL Studio and beyond.

So lets get the ball rolling and dive into the world of production.  When mixing any song, whether it is Hip Hop, EDM, Rock or anything in between, finding a proper sonic balance is key.  Every instrument needs to find it’s lane within the audio spectrum.  Trouble for mixing engineers often arises in the low end.  The term “muddy” gets thrown around a lot to describe things that just aren’t sounding right.   In the world of House, EDM or Hip Hop, genres whose low-end parts are a major component, finding the balance between your low frequency elements is key.  Two of those elements more often then not are the kick drum and the bass.
