House Music All Night Long.
If you haven’t spent an evening dancing into the wee hours of the morning to the steady pulse of some throbbing house beats, experiencing new sounds for the very first time, well you really haven’t lived. I’m sorry, but you need to get out more. Forget what you think you know, or what you think you like and let the homeboy on the decks take you on a trip. Shake that booty. Lose control. It’s like a sweet little night of exercise for your soul.
Through the years I’ve bounced through various sub-genres in the arena of house and continue to expand my knowledge on this corner of the music world. I’ve witnessed the emergence of techno and trance, and a cameo of big beat transition into the deep sexy tastes of the early 2000s. Then electro house came smashing through the doors in the mid-naughties and the rest of the planet quickly got up to speed.
Lately, I’ve been delving into more traditional forms, getting a deeper taste for jackin styles and indie dance. But, don’t get me wrong, I love it all. Bangers and stinkers populate the halls of house in all it’s subtle sub-genres.
If it’s good, it’s good. If it’s not, it’s not.
I checked out Jauz the other day during his Canadian club tour and homeboy bloody melted my face off. It was a highly enjoyable, energizing and visceral experience: bass house in all it’s glory. That guy has found his lane and drives through it like an escaped convict driving a semi-truck 150 miles an hour towards the Mexican border on bath salts.
This weeks selections are not quite in that lane.
Taking things down a notch they are living in a neighbourhood that is a little bit more chill. A whole lot of sexy and heavy with the groove. But, they still gotta knock. And it’s gotsta be funky.
This month’s picks run the gamut from Bass House bangers to Funky House floor-fillers, starting things off with a slick number from dance veterans Mousse-T and Selace.
Selace, Mousse-T – So Hooked On Your Lovin’
Next up is a bass rolling fist pumper from JaySounds. This groove is simple, hypnotic and just a little bit evil, released just in time for Halloween.
JaySounds – Thumpin’
Two names that have recently increased their footprint in the world of dance music are Throttle and Kungs. They join forces on this funky cut and don’t disappoint. I love it when the name of a song captures the essence of a track. Exhibit A:
Throttle, Kungs – Disco Night
A throbby little bass house number with a classic vibe.
Sqwad – Robbery
Tubby, Trippy and Deep (also the names of my three children).
Reese – Moving On (LTGTR Remix)
