Not a Test

Here’s a little jam a came across on my Instagram scroll. More and more this is a place where I find some really cool music. Not so much on FB, which I spend less and less time on these days, but more so on the aforementioned platform and Tik Tok. These are vital channels for artists and having one of your songs pop in this fashion can result in some serious traction.

So much so, that Billboard now has a chart to specifically address this and uses metrics from socials to inform the chart positions in other Billboard categories and overall sales numbers. I’d love to show you that chart, but it hidden behind a pay wall for subscribers. If you’re a music professional, the data from these charts is a useful tool and worth the money to subscribe. However, for the average listener it doesn’t really matter. All I can tell you is that the number one social artist is BTS.

You probably won’t find this next group in the Social 50, but it’s a sweet little jam nonetheless. Using a clever vocal chop of Rapper’s Delight’s by The Sugarhill Gang, Not a Test caught my ear and will probably find it’s way onto my next mix tape. Enjoy.
